What is going on in the Persian Gulf is rotten beyond words.

The rogue madman in the Oval Office has detonated a conflagration there that could send the entire global economy and financial system spiraling into a catastrophe—and not just because or even mainly due to the 23 million barrels of oil per day at risk out of 105 million needed worldwide.

What’s really at risk is the underlying global financial system. The latter is a veritable house of cards sitting upon a mountain of debt, leverage, and speculative excess. So it may not have the capacity or resilience to withstand a sudden $200 per barrel oil shock.

Yet and yet. The whole insanely reckless act of launching a sweeping military attack on a nation of 90 million people that had zero capacity to impose military harm on the home territory of the United States is predicated on one of the Great Big Stinking Lies of History—namely, that the Iranian regime is a uniquely evil stain on the face of the earth and has spent 47 years bringing injury, mayhem, and death to America and much of the region around it.

The truth, however, is that there’s nothing especially unique about Iran’s manifold sins at all. It’s just another run-of-the-mill authoritarian state run by a medieval theocracy that has imposed one of the most benighted tyrannies of modern times. Accordingly, it has brought untold hardships and miseries to its people, especially via the brutal ruffians of the IRGC.

But that’s mainly the unfortunate work of the clerics and their IRGC allies ruling inside its borders. When it comes to the outside world, Iran has invaded not a single neighboring country since 1979, and indeed not in the last 300 years before the mullahs.

At the same time, Iran was savagely attacked by Saddam Hussein with U.S. and European arms during the 1980s; it has been brutally sanctioned by Washington trade embargoes and economic warfare for the past 30 years; and for decades, it has also been relentlessly assaulted via Israeli assassination squads, saboteurs, and periodic missiles and bombs.

In fact, the whole "leading state sponsor of terror" slogan has more validity as a Bibi Netanyahu campaign theme than it does as an accurate description of the real world.

And, no, the "whadabout the proxies" canard doesn’t cut it, either. Not a single one of Iran’s so-called "proxies" in the region was concocted out of whole cloth by the mullahs as some kind of mercenary force recruited, trained, and financed by Tehran and artificially implanted in the soil of Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and Gaza.

To the contrary, the first three of these represented Shiite populations, which aligned with their Shiite brethren in Iran out of confessional ties and due to the fact that they were imperiled in their home countries. After all, there was no Hezbollah until Israel invaded southern Lebanon in the early 1980s and imposed a harsh occupation that left tens of thousands dead, culminating in the genocidal atrocities at Sabra and Shatila.

Likewise, the late Assad government in Syria was Alawite, which is a Shiite branch, and had been at war with Israel off and on since 1967 under Bashar Assad and his father before him. Whatever the merits of its half-century-long struggle with the Israelis, the Assad regime didn’t need any new marching orders from Tehran to become a "proxy."

Even in the case of Yemen, the country has been divided and wracked by civil war conditions since the 1960s as regionally based Shiite and Sunni factions battled for power.

The Houthis, domiciled in the north and west of Yemen, of course, are Shiite and made an alliance with Tehran. Not surprisingly, the southern and eastern Sunni areas of the country were aligned with the Sunni monarchy of Saudi Arabia, which has waged war against the Houthis much of the time since 2015.

Finally, however evil the Hamas forces surely are, they were not born, bred, and raised by the mullahs. If anything, the Israeli-sponsored open-air prison in Gaza and five brutal episodes of "mowing the lawn" via vicious bombing campaigns since 2007 were more than enough to explain the rise of Hamas.

In fact, Hamas was mainly Sunni, not Shiite, and was aligned with Iran only out of having a common enemy. Even then, most of the suitcases full of cash that Netanyahu permitted to come into Gaza year after year before October 7th were Sunni money from the Gulf states, not Iranian proxy finance.

So, yes, there has been a goodly amount of conflict and violence in the region, but it was not robotically commanded by the Ayatollahs. It was deeply rooted in the indigenous conflicts of the region that long pre-dated the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

The common thread, of course, is that all four of these forces were indigenous to the region and had a beef with Israel, separate and apart from anything happening in Tehran. That’s mainly because each of these groups was directly attacked or demonized by Bibi Netanyahu for deep reasons of Israeli politics.

For instance, the only reason Hamas thrived as long as it did is that Bibi Netanyahu financed it via Qatar in order to weaken the Palestinian Authority. In turn, that cynical ploy was aimed at scuttling any eventual implementation of the Oslo Accords and a two-state solution on the grounds that the Palestinians were so divided and violent that there was "no one to negotiate with."

In any event, the gist of the 47-Year War on America Lie stems almost entirely from Israel’s ongoing battle with the four mislabeled "proxies" and Washington’s repeated interventions, funding, and international political and diplomatic support for Israel. And even then, taking sides in this manner had no benefit whatsoever for the homeland security of America.

Yet it was the unnecessary and avoidable fallout from consistently taking sides with Israel against these regional foes that gave rise to the hoary myth that Iran has murdered more than 1,000 Americans over the 47 years since the Revolution. Yet a simple fact check conducted by Grok 4 at our request debunks this endlessly chanted claim lock, stock, and barrel.

Here are the key realities:

• Not one of the 1,050 American deaths during this period occurred on American soil.
• Exactly 1,041 of these deaths occurred at the hands of alleged Iranian proxies versus only 9 attributable to the Iranian military or other government agencies.
• Fully 1,000 or 96% of the American deaths happened in the context of U.S. military deployments to the region and the resulting active wars and peacekeeping activities in Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, and adjacent territories and coastal waters.

That’s right. Not one of these U.S. military deployments from the Beirut Marine barracks forward was necessary for America’s homeland security. To the contrary, all were elective wars undertaken in pursuit of the imperatives of Empire.

Accordingly, the resulting deaths are due to putting American military and civilian personnel wrongfully in harm’s way—and most especially from taking sides in local and regional military conflicts that were none of Washington’s business.

In short, the 1,000 American deaths chant is completely and hideously wrong because these figures resulted from Washington-initiated military actions in the Mideast that were wholly unjustified and, consequently, put American lives in harm’s way against local people who had reason to defend themselves from actual or potential U.S. military assault.

Thus, while all of these deaths were tragic and unnecessary, the neocon exploitation and lies about them need to be subject to withering ridicule. That is to say, things that didn’t need to happen owing to Washington’s fault over nearly a half-century do not remotely amount to a casus belli in any rational world.

Indeed, even if you consider these unfortunate deaths as abstract statistics without context or blame, there is absolutely no cause to start a quasi-world war in the Persian Gulf, which supplies a crucial share of the world’s crude oil, refined petroleum, LPGs, liquefied natural gas, industrial sulfur, and helium crucial to semiconductor chip production, among others.

To the contrary, the unhinged madman domiciled in the all-powerful Oval Office has the region, the U.S., and the global economy on the edge of catastrophic upheaval based on an utterly untruthful narrative about 1,050 American deaths during the last 47 years that were far exceeded by the ordinary course accidents and hazards of daily life in America during that same period, such as fatalities from:

• Powered lawnmower accidents: 3,200 deaths.
• Bee stings: 3,900 deaths.
• Falling out of bed: 10,300 deaths.
• Visiting Mexico: 4,000 Americans murdered there.
• Lightning strikes: 2,000 deaths.
• Cardiac arrest during sex: 8,000 deaths.

A QUESTÃO ERRADA SOBRE A GUERRA NO IRÃO

Se nós queremos perceber alguma coisa do que se passa atualmente no Médio Oridente, não nos devemos focalizar no início da ofensiva bélica israelo-americana de 28 de Fevereiro 2026. Temos de recuar pelo menos 40 anos, quando Netanyahu formulou pela primeira vez a intenção de eliminar, por todos os meios, a «ameaça» do programa nuclear iraniano.

A questão iraniana não é compreensível se não se tiver em conta que, ao longo das últimas décadas, o Irão, enquanto Estado, tem sido o apoio maior e mais coerente da luta dos palestinianos. A questão palestiniana é portanto, senão a única, pelo menos uma importante causa do ataque continuado de Israel e dos EUA  contra a República Xiita. 

No artigo abaixo, do Professor Yakov Rabkin (Professor Emeritus na Universidade de Montréal), enviado por Pascal Lottaz (Neutrality Sttudies), podemos ter uma amostra de factos relevantes, nestes últimos 40 anos, no que toca a Israel, à Palestina e à importância do Irão para a luta de libertação do povo palestininano do colonialismo e racismo de Israel.

Iranians and their allies in Lebanon and Yemen are prepared to die as martyrs, and many have already been killed by joint Israeli and American strikes. Yet the yearning for justice has proven to be both profound and resilient. Iran remains the principal stronghold of resistance to Israel. It not only decries Israel’s apartheid regime and genocide in Gaza but also supports armed resistance groups such as Hezbollah and Hamas. By contrast, almost all governments in the region are only opposed to Israel’s occupation and oppression of Palestine in principle, while cooperating with Israel in practice. Turkey is an important transit point for oil and gas supplied to Israel. Egypt has helped Israel isolate Gaza and starve its inhabitants. During the last Israeli attack on Iran in 2025, Jordanian and Saudi air defences protected Israel from incoming Iranian missiles. The United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco, and Sudan formalized relations with Israeli through the 2020 Abraham Accords. Elbit, an Israeli company, accounts for 12 percent of Morocco’s total arms imports, and other Arab regimes openly or tacitly purchase Israeli weapons and surveillance equipment. This pattern is exhibited by many other countries, particularly in the West. ----------------------------- PS1: Aquilo que muitos anti-capitalistas bem-intencionados não compreendem é a relação da luta de classes em cada país e região, com a luta global pela libertação das garras do suprematismo americano. GAZA: AS MENTIRAS PROPALADAS PARA ENCOBRIR O CRIME DE GENOCÍDIO

 Escutei várias vezes com atenção este vídeo do «Le Quotidien Global». No seu conteúdo, este relato é dos mais objetivos que tenho até agora ouvido sobre Gaza, a Palestina, Israel, o regime de Netanyahu. Também é notório que os poderes ocidentais, foram apoiantes ativos, sobretudo EUA e Reino Unido, da campanha de terror contra civis, desde o primeiro momento. 

Quando se faz a apologia da ação militar de Israel em Gaza, está-se a criar clima favorável a todos os atos que depois cometeu. Seus apoiantes, chefes de Estado e governo, de vários países ocidentais deveriam também ter um lugar reservado no banco dos reús, no Tribunal Penal Internacional.

Quando a media corporativa perpetua as mentiras típicas da propaganda de guerra e não faz nenhum esforço para desfazer aquilo que propalou, sabemos que a sua missão deixou de ser (há muito tempo, na verdade) de divulgar as notícias o mais próximo possível da realidade e de modo objetivo, neutral, não enviesado.

Ás numerosas pessoas que há dois anos me diziam que o Hamas tinha cometido atrocidades, eu respondia que a saída de 7 de Outubro para fora da prisão de Gaza, FOI UM ATO MILITAR  e que numa circunstância assim, os militantes palestinianos tinham que se preocupar - em exclusivo - em neutralizar as forças inimigas da IDF (forças armadas de Israel) que mantinham o cerco da Faixa de Gaza. 

As barbaridades atribuídas aos gerrilheiros palestinianos eram construções da propaganda sionista, destinada a virar a opinião pública mundial contra os palestinianos. Compreendi logo isso e depois veio a ser confirmado plenamente, com provas irrefutáveis. 

De facto, os objetivos mais importantes da operação da resistência palestiniana foram alcançados. Mostraram que Israel (o seu governo, as suas forças armadas) era opressor, sem qualquer preocupação com os aspectos humanitários, com prazer sádico em matar e humilhar uma população indefesa. 

O objetivo declarado pelo governo de Netanyahu de «liquidar o Hamas», não apenas não foi conseguido, como a posição do Hamas se fortificou no seio do povo palestiniano, como também a nível internacional. Além disso, a questão do estatuto da Palestina enquanto Estado independente, nunca se colocou com tanta força como agora. 

Não sei, evidentemente, o que o futuro trará, mas creio que é importante que Gaza fique como símbolo da barbárie contra um povo indefeso e que resiste desde 1948. 

Com efeito, foi vítima da histórica injustiça que lhe foi feita, quando a ONU reconheceu o Estado de Israel e deixou «no vácuo» a questão do reconhecimento dos territórios palestinanos, conforme prometido, enquanto território nacional dos palestinianos.

O 7 de Outubro de 2023 será lembrado como um gesto de libertação, de coragem dos resistentes, não apenas do Hamas, como doutras organizações da Resistência palestiniana. 

A resistência de todo um povo - os palestinianos de Gaza e dos restantes territórios - ficou demonstrada. Os habitantes de Gaza recusaram abandonar a cidade que tinha sido transformada em ruínas, assim como todas as infraestruturas e recursos (hospitais, escolas, mesquitas, igrejas cristãs, etc), intencionalmente bombardeadas e demolidas pelos  israelitas.

É terrível o peso que devem sentir muitos judeus, pelo mundo fora, perante a perpetuação de crimes em massa, que só têm paralelo no horror e desumanização que os nazis fizeram ao povo judeu, logo em 1933, mas que se foi intensificando como morticínio em massa, nos finais da IIª Guerra Mundial. 

Mas, o sofrimento da população palestiniana durante estes anos todos, desde antes da implantação do Estado de Israel, deveria ensinar a todos que não se pode aceitar um Estado étnico (um Estado que apenas reconheça como cidadãos de pleno direito os de uma dada etnia) e/ou um Estado com religião oficial (em que é crime criticar a religião e onde as leis são moldadas para se conformar com um credo religioso), nem um Estado que discrimine como não-cidadãos quem aí vive desde há séculos e séculos. Chama-se neste último caso, «apartheid», nome dado ao regime de segregação racial promovido pelos brancos na África do Sul, que só acabou na década de 1980.

Não tenho nenhuma compaixão pelos sionistas e seus comparsas: andaram a atear campanhas de ódio, de propaganda do mais vil conteúdo, para «justificar» os horrores cometidos quotidianamente, nestes dois anos de matança. Não chamo a isto «guerra», pois os alvos principais dos sionistas eram civis e os palestinianos resistentes armados, não tinham meios para contrariar, de modo eficaz, os atos do exército inimigo.

O meu horror e tristeza não ficam confinados ao regime monstruoso de Netanyahu e seus apoiantes internos e externos: 

É que nós temos vivido numa bolha de ilusões, nos regimes ocidentais, de «democracia liberal»; de que estes tinham valores e que os assumiam. Não! Apenas usaram, durante mais de um século, uma «indignação» fabricada, para lançar campanhas contra seus opositores, encobrindo os crimes deles próprios contra forças anti-coloniais, anti-capitalistas, pró-socialismo, pró-autodeterminação, que surgiram neste século e meio, em todos os continentes e nos países-sedes coloniais e imperiais. 

Prof. Mearsheimer: EXISTE ALGO NOS FICHEIROS EPSTEIN QUE CONDICIONA TODA A POLÍTICA DOS EUA

A lucidez e cuidadosa documentação do Prof. Mearsheimer mostram que as supostas propostas de paz, vindas da administração Trump e dirigidas aos palestinianos, não têm qualquer hipótese, são uma «proposta» de criação duma Palestina neocolonial, sob controlo de Israel. Nada aponta, na proposta de acordo, para instaurar um Estado palestiniano independente... Mearsheimer explica que um tal alinhamento com o governo genocida de Netanyahu mostra que Trump (e pessoas da administração Biden), têm estado sob um processo de chantagem. Netanyahu é um político experiente e sem escrúpulos, que conhece bem os meandros de Washington.

 

A FALSIFICAÇÃO DA HISTÓRIA DOS HEBREUS COM OBJETIVOS POLÍTICOS

Uma das maiores mentiras dos sionistas no poder em Israel, é a da sua ligação «de sangue» com os povos judeus dos tempos bíblicos.

Para sustentar essa mentira e justificar a teoria do «retorno», toda uma série de falsidades são produzidas para dar crédito a uma certa versão da Bíblia Hebraica. Não está em causa a escritura bíblica, em si mesma, mas sua interpretação redutora, aliás em contradição flagrante com os factos estabelecidos pela arqueologia moderna. 

Criou-se uma pseudo-científica «arqueologia bíblica», que pretendia encontrar, a todo o custo, evidências no subsolo de Israel/Palestina, em apoio aos vários livros da Bíblia. Esta «arqueologia bíblica» conseguiu iludir muitos, no passado; porém, agora está desacreditada, graças aos avanços da arqueologia moderna.

Por outro lado, a técnica de sequenciação do ADN tornou possível o retraçar das genealogias. Foram gastas somas consideráveis - de fundações privadas e de universidades e institutos de investigação - para encontrar os supostos «genes judaicos»: Fez-se muito alarido em torno de tal pesquisa.

Porém, quer as populações Sefarditas (Judeus da Europa Ocidental e Norte de África), quer Askenases (Centro e Leste da Europa), não possuem genes que os diferenciem das populações não-judaicas dos seus respectivos entornos. Não se identificaram genes particulares, que fossem «marcadores exclusivos» das populações judaicas, para grande decepção dos patronos destes estudos.

De facto, este é o resultado mais provável. A História não fantasiada é reforçada pela Genética das Populações: Foram numerosos os cruzamentos entre judeus e não judeus e houve conversões ao judaismo, ao longo de mais de 2000 anos de história dos judeus na Europa.

Mas, existe uma comunidade poderosa de sionistas ricos que tem pressionado para serem refeitos e reinterpretados aqueles estudos genéticos, em puro desperdício de meios humanos e financeiros: O que procuram é uma «cobertura científica» para o seu racismo. Querem que a genética «prove» a existência de genes específicos à população judaica. Isto, para que possam afirmar que as populações judaicas são «uma raça à parte».

No entanto, a religião judaica pode existir e ser cultivada, tal como as outras religiões, com a participação de várias etnias. Porém, os sionistas têm um arreigado complexo racista. Eles têm de afirmar sua superioridade genética, enquanto relegam os palestinianos à categoria de «infra-humanos».*

Como geneticista, não posso senão denunciar como uma fraude, que se continue na senda dum racismo disfarçado, agora com utilização das técnicas de ADN, para falsificar a realidade e perpetuar o mito do povo judaico como uma «raça».

Como esclarece o etnólogo do vídeo abaixo, os mais diretos descendentes dos habitantes da Palestina de há 2000 anos, são as atuais populações palestinianas.

Nestas, existem cristãos, muçulmanos e judeus. Os  membros das três religiões viveram em comunidades separadas mas em vizinhança pacífica, no passado. O mesmo ocorreu na Península Ibérica, antes dos reis de Espanha e de Portugal (finais do séc. XV- princípios de séc. XVI) terem forçado os mouros e os judeus a converterem-se ao cristianismo. Os que não aceitaram, foram expulsos.

Atualmente, em Israel, a maioria da população judaica é proveniente ou descendente de colonos, em sucessivas vagas após a IIª Guerra Mundial, sobretudo vindos da Europa Central e do Leste.

 La Oficina del Alto Comisionado de las Naciones Unidas para los Derechos Humanos ha publicado un informe profundo y profundamente perturbador sobre el uso generalizado de la violencia sexual y de género por parte de Israel contra los palestinos durante el genocidio en Gaza. En este artículo revisaré algunas de las partes más importantes del informe. Se desmiente el engaño de la violación masiva del 7 de octubre. En el informe, la ONU señala que las falsas acusaciones de violaciones masivas cometidas por Hamás el 7 de octubre se utilizaron para justificar atrocidades reales contra los palestinos. 

En el informe señalan que “las acusaciones de violencia sexual contra mujeres israelíes el 7 de octubre de 2023 han dado lugar a intentos de reconstruir la masculinidad nacional israelí a través de la agresión”. 

El informe también señaló que: los funcionarios israelíes han utilizado la violencia sexual cometida contra mujeres israelíes el 7 de octubre para movilizar apoyo a las operaciones militares de las fuerzas de seguridad israelíes en la Franja de Gaza y continuar la guerra, refiriéndose a Hamás como "un régimen violador" que ha utilizado la violencia sexual como arma para aterrorizar a la población israelí mientras "la comunidad internacional permanece en silencio". 

 También señalaron que “este mensaje ha sido amplificado y difundido por las fuerzas de seguridad israelíes en videos de hombres palestinos detenidos que presuntamente confesan actos de violación y otras formas de violencia sexual durante los ataques del 7 de octubre”. 

Más adelante el informe señala que estos vídeos fueron extraídos bajo tortura, escribiendo que la Comisión revisó varios vídeos en los que los detenidos eran interrogados por miembros de las FSI, mientras eran colocados en una posición extremadamente vulnerable, completamente subyugados, cuando confesaban haber presenciado o cometido violaciones y otros delitos graves. También se expusieron los nombres y rostros de los detenidos. 

La Comisión considera que la distribución de dichos vídeos, con fines puramente propagandísticos, constituye una violación del debido proceso y de las garantías de un juicio justo. 

En vista de las circunstancias aparentemente coercitivas de las confesiones que aparecen en los vídeos, la Comisión no acepta dichas confesiones como prueba de los crímenes confesados. 

Una investigación del Times of London concluyó que “en todos los videos y fotografías de Hamás no había representaciones de violaciones”. 

El periódico también “contrató a un destacado investigador israelí de la red oscura para buscar evidencia de esas imágenes, incluido material de archivo”, quien dijo: “No se pudo encontrar ninguna”. Moran Gez, un fiscal israelí centrado en el 7 de octubre, también admitió

Aqueles de nós que continuamos falando sobre o uso que Israel fez da chamada diretiva Hannibal em 7 de outubro de 2023 — na qual Israel matou seus próprios cidadãos para impedir que fossem capturados pelo Hamas — fomos difamados por desculpar os crimes do Hamas naquele dia.

Em parte, isso se deve ao fato de que algumas das imagens mais horripilantes de 7 de outubro, de corpos carbonizados e carros e casas destruídos em Israel — apresentadas como evidência de uma barbárie especial que é supostamente típica dos palestinos — foram quase certamente causadas por Israel invocando sua diretiva de terra arrasada naquele dia.

Essas imagens se tornaram centrais na onda de propaganda lançada por Israel e seus apologistas para justificar o massacre em massa de crianças de Gaza nos 17 meses seguintes.

Mas há também uma razão muito mais urgente e premente para manter nossa atenção focada no papel da diretiva de Hannibal. E ela se relaciona com o que está acontecendo agora.

Israel e os EUA ainda estão aplicando a diretiva de Hannibal — contra os prisioneiros israelenses mantidos em Gaza. 

O ponto da diretiva sempre foi impedir que o inimigo pudesse usar reféns israelenses como alavanca para atrair Israel para negociações — principalmente para pressioná-lo a entregar qualquer um dos milhares de reféns palestinos que mantém em seus campos de prisão e tortura . Muitos deles nunca foram acusados ​​ou julgados.

Israel e os EUA nos dizem que precisam bombardear Gaza — no que equivale a um genocídio "plausível", de acordo com a mais alta corte do mundo — para forçar o Hamas a devolver os prisioneiros israelenses. Mas, na verdade, Israel e os EUA estão matando imprudentemente esses mesmos prisioneiros por meio de suas ações.

Why? So they don’t have to negotiate over a ceasefire. So they can carry on with the genocide, without pressure to deal with the fate of the Israelis held in Gaza.

It was exactly the same reckless approach on Oct. 7, when Israel showed it was indifferent as to whether Israelis lived or died so long as they weren’t taken captive.

That’s why — in one instance we know about — the Israeli military fired into a home in Kibbutz Be’eri, knowing that there were a dozen or more Israelis inside, including children.

The army was completely indifferent as to whether those Israelis would be killed as a result. All but two were. Those witnesses are the main reason we know what really happened.

That’s why Israel’s Apache helicopters recklessly fired on hundreds of cars fleeing the Nova music festival, indifferent to whether the cars contained Hamas fighters or Israeli citizens.

Even the former defence minister, Yoav Gallant, admits the directive was invoked that day.

We’ll never know how many Israelis were killed – in part because Israel will never let us know. It’s even buried many of the destroyed cars to stop a forensic investigation.

But what we do know with certainty is that the Israeli military killed many Israelis on Oct. 7.

Western media have studiously refused to report on the issue of the Hannibal directive, even though it is all over the Israeli media. (See here, here, here and here.)

That is more than just a failure by Western media outlets. It is a crime against journalism — if not complicity in the genocide itself.

Western publics need to know that the Hannibal directive was invoked for a very simple reason: It is a crucial piece of information for assessing the credibility of Israeli and U.S. claims that they are trying to get the Israeli captives back alive and to properly weigh Israel’s motives in returning to the genocide in Gaza.

Notice how, in Trump’s latest deranged tweet, he accuses Hamas of “murdering” the Israelis held in Gaza. That’s pure, Israeli-inspired disinformation.

It is clear that most, if not all, of the dead captives were killed not by their Hamas captors but by Israel’s massive, reckless 15-month bombardment of the tiny territory of Gaza. That same bombardment, the equivalent of six Hiroshimas, has leveled Gaza and killed many tens of thousands — maybe hundreds of thousands — of Palestinians.

Why is Trump so eager to misdirect us?

Because he wants to win our support for Israel’s continuation of its slaughter of the people of Gaza and justify his own decision to supply, as his predecessor did, the weapons needed to continue that genocide.

After all, Trump makes his own genocidal intent expressly clear in addressing “the people of Gaza” and telling them that they will all be “DEAD” if the Israeli captives aren’t handed over. Yet “the people of Gaza” have no control over whether the captives are released.

Notice too that Trump calls Hamas “sick and twisted” for holding on to the bodies of dead Israeli captives, even though it is Israel that is violating the ceasefire agreement that would see those bodies returned.

This has become a further rationalisation by Israel and the U.S. for killing “the people of Gaza.” But Hamas learnt the value of using dead bodies as bargaining chips directly from Israel.

For years, the Israeli government has had a policy of refusing to return to their families the corpses of those Palestinians it has killed, including while in its torture camps. This violation of international law long predates Oct. 7. The Israeli courts have repeatedly approved the policy, accepting the government’s view that the bodies should be held as “bargaining chips.” It gave its backing again in January.

So if Hamas is “sick and twisted,” it is only because Israel is even more sick and twisted. If Trump thinks the people of Gaza deserve a genocide because of their leaders’ “sick and twisted” decisions, should he not be consistent and argue that the people of Israel deserve a similar fate for their own leaders’ “sick and twisted” decisions?

A campaign of lies and disinformation have helped to shred international law over the past year and half. And one of the biggest lies is the pretence that, in slaughtering Gaza’s children, Israel has been acting in the interests of Israelis held in the enclave.
